Hog Prices are Gaining at Midday

Lean hog futures are up 32 to 90 cents at midday, save for UNCH Feb at $68.42. Pork cutout futures are trading with midday 10 to 35 cent gains. The CME Lean Hog Index was back up by 36 cents on 1/18 to $65.92. USDA’s National Average Base Hog price was down by $1.95 in the AM update, at $54.69. The National Pork Carcass Cutout value was quoted at $83.98 in the AM report. That was up $4.96 on a $10.88 bump in hams and a $17.42 increase for bellies.  USDA estimated FI hog slaughter at 1.423 million head through Wednesday. That was down 71,0000 head wk/wk, but up from 1.39m the same week last year.
